Sime Darby working with BMT on Weifang Port project
BMT Asia Pacific, the Asian unit of international design, engineering and risk consultancy BMT Group Ltd, is working with Sime Darby on its Weifang Port development project, Seatrade Asia online reports.
Sime Darby had earlier announced a RMB2.8bn expansion plan for the port in China's Shandong Province.
BMT has developed a strategic master plan for the port's development and was chosen by Sime Darby because it had a key involvement in other, similar projects in China.
In order to develop the most efficient and cost effective master plan, BMT carried out extensive analysis and research on areas including: hinterland market, pricing strategy, cost audit and structural integrity study, throughput forecasting, layout design and financial assessment.
"The development of a viable business plan is the key foundation to the success of a port or terminal. As such we have created business development strategies and action plans for clients and evaluated the most efficient structure and forms of finance," said BMT Asia Pacific director and chief economist Simon Su.
