Murmansk coal port construction commences in late 2012 - early 2013
The construction of a new Murmansk hub for handling coal of capacity of 18 million tons was the agenda of a meeting of Siberian Business Union holding company (SBU) President Mikhail Fedyaev and Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Transport Vladimir Gridin with Murmansk Region Governor Maria Kovtun.
As a result the parties have reached an agreement to resolve as soon as possible all issues to start the construction of the coal port. The local government will allocate land plot to build a 2-km-long railway from the Lavna station to the port. The Business Union will invest in construction of an electrical substation to supply the future port with electricity.The coal port construction is set to begin in late 2012 – early 2013.
