By the end of November 23 vessels used the Northern Sea Route for cargo transport, a Rosmorrechflot official said Wednesday, IAA PorNews reports.
Deputy head of The Federal Agency for River and Marine Transport (Rosmorrechflot) Yuri Kostin who attended the 4th International Forum "The Arctic: Present and Future" in St. Petersburg said that in 2013 a total of 36 vessels made transits through the NSR and transported 1,2 million tonnes of different cargoes.
According to an optimistic scenario, by 2030, freight traffic on the Northern Sea Route could hit 85 million tonnes a year.
