    The cargo turnover of transport agencies of Karelia increased by 5.3 % to 6.67 million t/ km

    Transport agencies of Karelia republic (KR) increased there cargo turnover in January-March 2006 by 5.3 % up to 6.67 million t/km in comparison with the similar period of 2005, PRIME-TASS reports referring to Kareliastat. The rail freight turnover increased by 5.4 % to 6.628 million t/km, motor freight turnover reduced by 4.9 % to 42.4 million t/km, air - by 10.2 % to 5.3 million t/km. Volume of cargoes transported by transport agencies increased by 12.2 % to 4.236 million tons for the accounting period, including rail transportation - by 13.5 % to 4.08 million tons, air transportation- reduced by 26,3 % to 0,3 thousand tons, motor - by 13.3 % to 156.3 thousand tons. Iron ore prevails in structure of commodities transported by rail (53.5 % of the total amount), the share of building cargoes is equal to 25.8 %, of timber cargoes – 12.6 %. In January-March 2006 tariffs for cargo transportation increased by 11.7 % in comparison with the similar period of 2005, including rail transportation - by 8.8 %, internal water transportation - by 15,7 %, motor – by 7.7 %.
