Detachment of RF Navy's Northern Fleet completed training in the Norwegian Sea
A Northern Fleet detachment made up of the heavy missile cruiser Pyotr Velikiy and missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov completed combat training tasks in the Norwegian Sea, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.
At the final stage of the maneuvers, the ships practiced searching and tracking a submarine of an adversary in the northern part of the Norwegian Sea with the use of Ka-27 anti-submarine deck helicopters.
The exercises of missile cruisers are held as part of the final combat training of the Northern Fleet during the winter period of the 2019 training year. The tasks were performed by the North Sea units in the Barents Sea and Norwegian Sea during the last week.
During the naval maneuvers, the crews practiced organization of antiaircraft defence of the detachment for search and rescue operations. Cruisers trained to fire Kinzhal anti-aircraft missile systems and AK-130 and AK-630 artillery systems.
At one stage of the exercise, the crews of the ships practiced joint actions with anti-submarine aircraft of the Air Force and Air Defence, Tu-142 and Il-38 airplanes, as well as with aircraft of the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Federation.
