Latvian Rail presents its data for the first half of 2008
27.8 m tons of freight were carried by Latvian rail in H1.
It is an increase of 9.3% compared to the same period last year, Railway Market-CEE Review cites The Baltic Course according to RZD-Partner.
In six months of 2008 in international transportation by rail 27 m tons of freights were transported – 9.9% more compared to the January – June 2007. 79.2% of the total international freight haulage was accounted for by transportation through ports.
By contrast, the volume of national freight carried by rail has decreased by 9.7% in comparison with the January – June of the previous year and represented 0.8 m tons of freight.
Compared to the H1 of the previous year, the number of passengers carried by rail in the 1st half of 2008 has decreased by 3.5%. This mode of transport was used by 12.7 m passengers.
In the 1st half of 2008, compared to the 1st half of the previous year, the number of passengers carried by domestic traffic has decreased by 3.4% comprising 12.5 m passengers. The number of passengers carried by international rail transport has decreased by 12.9% compared to the 1st half of the previous year, and constituted 0.2 m passengers.
