Iran objects to laying pipelines across Caspian Sea
Tehran objects to the possible laying of pipelines across the Caspian Sea, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Safari told the media on Thursday, Interfax reports.
"We object because of the possible negative impact on sea ecology," he said.
There are Iranian and Russian energy routes, and it is unnecessary to jeopardize Caspian ecology, the deputy minister said.
Experts of five Caspian nations have coordinated a draft convention on the legal status of the Caspian Sea at 60-70%, Safari said. He added that the sides would like to intensify that process, and the third Caspian summit will take place in Baku in October-November.
