Yemen “to host anti-piracy center”
YEMEN'S transport minister Khalid Al-Wazir says his country will host a regional centre for combating piracy, in the latest move in response to the surge in hijackings in the Gulf of Aden.
According to Yemen Times the minster says Yemen will establish this centre in collaboration with 20 other countries and International Maritime Organization. The country will will host a regional meeting from 23-30 October 23-30 where the participating countries will sign a memorandum of understanding for mutual cooperation between the signing countries to fight piracy.
It is also reported that the Malaysian Foreign Ministry has requested its Yemeni and Somali counterparts to help release the two Malaysian-flag tankers that were hijacked by Somali Pirates last month.
