Euromax Terminal opens in Rotterdam

The Euromax Terminal in Rotterdam, The Netherlands was officially opened on September 5th.

A joint development by Europe Container Terminal (ECT) and the CKYH Alliance (Cosco Group, K-Line, Yang Ming Line and Hanjin Shipping), the Euromax Terminal is located in Maasvlakte-1.

The facility has four berths in Phase 1, and will be expanded to Phase 4.  At this stage, the facility's handling capacity is 2.3 million TEU, which will increase to 5.6 million TEU on completion of Phase 4.

The Port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe as well as the hub port linking Benelux, the UK, Scandinavia and the North West of Germany.

Euromax joins Hanjin Shipping's global network of dedicated terminals: four in Korea (Gamcheon, Gamman, Kwangyang, Pyeongtaek), two in Japan (Tokyo, Osaka), one in Taiwan (Kaohsiung), four in the US (Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle) and two in Europe (Antwerp, Belgium and Rotterdam, Netherlands).

Hanjin has already announced that it will open four more terminals: Busan New Port (Phase 2-1) in Korea in early-2009, Algeciras, Spain in July 2010, Vietnam in 2010, and Jacksonville, Florida, US in 2011.

Hanjin is also studying the possibility of securing more dedicated terminals in various logistics hubs such as in the Mediterranean and South East Asia.
