(SINGAPORE) Homegrown integrated logistics provider Freight Links Express Holdings has invested in a new $45 million chemical hub in Penjuru Lane for storing chemical and dangerous goods.
This new facility is expected to contribute positively to our current financial period,' said senior vice-president Yap Soo San. 'In our assessment, we expect strong growth in the chemical logistics sector in Singapore, China and India in the next few years,' he added.
In fact, Asian demand for petrochemical products is expected to surpass the combined demand of the US and Europe within the next two years.
The 26,463 square metre LTH chemical hub is built to the stringent requirements of the SS 532:2007 Singapore Standard Code of Practice for the Storage of Flammable Liquids and is equipped with VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) system with super flat flooring to achieve better use of space and cost efficiency. It provides 787 sq m of covered storage for dangerous chemicals stored in specially designed tanks. It also has 13 drumming lines with a built-in scrubber system to extract and treat the fumes in the pipes to ensure that it is environmentally safe.
'With the highly regarded safety features in our new facility and the establishment of a one-stop service, we have strengthened our position to meet the increasing needs of our customers,' said CEO Eric Khua.
The facility has been built in response to rising demand for the storage of dangerous goods and will support the group's growth and expansion programmes, Freight Links said. It has increased the dangerous goods storage capacity from 7,250 pallets to 15,000 pallets, including an additional 3,000 pallets for non-dangerous goods.
'The chemical hub will raise our standards of customer service by providing a one-stop service, including our drumming services and the provision of ISO-tank covered storage,' said Mr Yap.
The state-of-the-art facilities are also in line with the government's requirements in terms of maintaining high security and safety standards in storing flammable materials and are fully compliant with the SS 532 standard which sets out the requirements and recommendations for the safe storage and handling of flammable liquids.
