Throughput of Port Vanino OJSC up 5.5% to 4.5 mln t in Jan-Aug 08
In January-August, 2008, throughput of Port Vanino OJSC increased by 5.5%, year-on-year, to 4.53 million tonnes of cargo, the company informs. In the reported period, transshipment of export cargo fell by 2.7%, year-on-year, to 2.1 million tonnes including 1.007.1 million tonnes of timber (-23.3%), 425,700 tonnes of coal (+15.4%), 124,200 tonnes of ferrous metal (+35.7%) and 483,600 tonnes of non-ferrous metal (+36.3%). Transshipment of import cargo amounted to 1.004.6 million tonnes (+40.1%, year-on-year) including 777,200 tonnes of alumina (+12.3%). Transshipment of coastal trade cargo totaled 244,000 tonnes (+1.1%, year-on-year). In January-August 2008, Vanino-Kholmsk ferry service carried 1.182.8 million tonnes of cargo (+0.%).
In the reported period the stevedoring company handled 1,197 vessels including 524 ferries and 52,600 wagons.
Vanino Commercial Seaport OJSC is the largest stevedoring company of Khabarovsk. It provides handling and forwarding services. The state holds 55% of the company. region
Port of Vanino is a transport hub located at the North-Western coast of Vanino Bay of Tatar Strait being the end point of Baikal-Amur Railway. Cargo is delivered via Vanino to the north-eastern regions of Russia, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, USA and other countries of APR.
The port’s infrastructure comprises 16 berths, open and covered warehousing facilities, specialized handling equipment. The port is capable of handling vessels with deadweight of up to 45,000 tonnes.
