Russia does not want confrontation with Ukraine over the deployment of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol, Vladimir Dorokhin, ambassador at large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said here on Friday according to Itar-Tass. He led the Russian delegation at consultations with Ukraine over the Black Sea Fleet.
“Russia’s stand on the deployment of the Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine has not changed. We do not want confrontation with Ukraine over that problem. Seamen should not get involved in politics. They should discharge their duties, and they have a lot of them,” he said.
Dorokhin reported that the parties had agreed to continue a dialogue on the deployment of Russian naval ships in Sevastopol within the framework of the subcommission on the Black Sea Fleet. “We mentioned the problem of rent payments and other aspects of the deployment of naval ships in Sevastopol,” Dorokhin said.
