Port of Melbourne sets national throughput record
Australia's largest container port, the Port of Melbourne (PoMC), has set a new national monthly volume record, with more than 6,600 containers a day on average in August, Australian Associated Press reported.
Total container throughput increased by 13 percent in August, to a record of 205,066 TEUs.
Port chief executive officer Stephen Bradford said the increased volume underpinned the port's ranking as the only Australian entry in the world's top 50 container ports.
