New equipment of VMTP to make Vladivostok traffic less congested

Containers now comprise the major part of Vladivostok Marine Trade Port’s freight turnover – up to 40%. According to vladivostoktimes.com, twenty other per cent go to cars, and the rest of turnover – to various freights, the General Director of OJSC “VMTP” Vyacheslav PERTSEV said. In the nearest future the trade port’s management is planning to change its policy and to concentrate its work on cars. However, containers will still comprise quite a big part of VMTP turnover. “The new reloaders bought in China will help to raise the container-carrying capacity from today’s 150,000 containers a year to 650,000 a year. We plan to achieve these results next year,” – said Vyacheslav PERTSEV. He also added that now VMTP workload is 70%, which is a usual thing in major ports all over the world: a port should have output reserve in case of emergency. “When the new equipment is used, the container turnover will increase, but the workload will remain the same,” – the VMTP General Director informed. The Vice-president of the FESCO transport group’s port division Andrei TOKAREV added that new loaders will allow to use mainly rail transport rather than motor transport for containerized shipment, that will help to make the city traffic less congested.
