Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Transport has announced a tender for the working draft of a proposed seaport project, said Musa Panahov, Deputy Minister of Transport.
According to him, the bidding deadline is October 20. After a contractor is selected by the end of this year, a new seaport will be built in Alat, near Baku.
He added that the site is owned by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and negotiations are under way to acquire this land for the seaport.
Under the design made by South Korean GS Engineering & Construction Co., the seaport project will have three overlapping phases- 2008-2011, 2011-2013 and 2012-2015.
There will be 11 berths, of which 6 will be constructed at the first phase. The port will handle 11.6 million tons of cargo in 2015.
