The ship is the first CMA CGM high-capacity vessel to call at the new terminal since its opening in August 2008.
Its arrival marks the official start of CMA CGM activities at the terminal in which the French group holds a 40 percent share, including the 20 percent held through its Moroccan subsidiary Comanav, which it acquired in May 2007.
With 2,598-foot berths, eight cranes and 21 rubber-tired gantry cranes, the terminal will soon offer an annual capacity of 1.3 million TEUs. Its 58-foot depth will allow the berthing of container ships exceeding 12,000 TEUs ordered by CMA CGM.
The terminal just entered its first expansion phase. CMA CGM said it will establish new connections with other services operated by the group, including the transit of merchandise to and from the U.S., Latin America and North Europe.
