Mumbai Port Trust challenged over offshore container terminal license

The Mumbai Port Trust has been taken to court over its decision to award Indira Container Terminal (ICT) a license to operate and manage its offshore container terminal in Bombay Harbour and handle cargo at its port. The case, put forward by SKS Logistics (India), is its second attempt to prove that the license violates the terms of the tender as it gives ICT a monopoly to handle all container traffic (cargo) at the Mumbai Port. MPT’s decision to award the contract was upheld by the Bombay High Court on the previous occasion, leading SKS Logistics to take the case to India’s Supreme Court in Delhi. The court date set for the case is November 3, 2008. SKS Logistics is one of a number of companies involved in container transportation between MPT and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust.
