Clint Eisenhauer will open the conference in Washington DC on October 30. Over 100 delegates from key areas of the shipping industry are already signed-up to attend.
Maersk Inc. is the main US unit of Maersk Line, the world's biggest container shipping line.
The Washington Forum will focus on the changes facing the shipping industry as environmental concerns climb the political and business agenda of leading maritime nations.
AP Moller-Maersk Group, of which Maersk Line is part, last month published an assessment of its environmental policies in its first ever consolidated Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Report.
The Group called the report a “milestone” and said health and the environmental issues had become important aspects of business strategy.
The conference is being held in the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Washington D.C. in the last days of October.
Other keynote speakers include E. Nikolas Tavlarios, President of Aegean Marine Petroleum Network Inc, a leading global bunker supplier and Hans Meijer, the European Commission's policy officer for clean air and transport.
One of the speakers, Ron Henderson of ABS Consulting Inc., will tell delegates that issues of sustainability are central to company strategies and business.
He will argue that business needs “outcomes that are socially and environmentally responsible as well as economically sustainable.”
