Hainan ports' cargo volume up 15% to 56.3m tons in H1

South China's Hainan province handled 56.3 million tons of cargo via its ports in January-June 2011, a 14.9% growth from last year's figure, Xinhua reports.

Foreign trade cargo climbed 13.7 per cent to 9.1 million tons. Container cargo amounted to 505,400 TEU.

Yangpu port is the fastest growing port in Hainan. It handled 15.1 million tons in this period, 23.1% more than in the same period a year ago. Container throughput surged 46.1% to 140,000 TEU. Foreign trade cargo rose 9.2% to 6.9 million tons.

Another port Haikou lifted 363,000 TEU in this period, up 17.1 per cent. Throughput tonnage increased 16.7% to 24.4 million tons.
