Westports box volume up 17% to 3.1 million TEU, plans to raise capacity to 9 million
Westports Malaysia posted a 17 per cent first half year-on-year increase in container volume to 3.1 million TEU, Shippingazette reports citing the port operator statistics.
Westports, which handles 66 per cent of Port Klang's container volume, said it was moving forward to build a 3,937-foot berth by 2013 to relieve port congestion.
The extra berth will add an annual capacity of nine million TEU. Westports Malaysia CEO Ruben Emir Gnanalingam told the Malaysian Sun that he is optimistic the company will handle 6.3 million TEU this year, up 800,000 TEU year on year.
