Neva-Metal eight-month box volume rises 19 percent to 29,000 TEUs
Container traffic at St. Petersburg-based Neva-Metal in January-August 2011 grew by 19% from last year’s figure, to 29,000 TEUs, the terminal owner Severstal company said. Total cargo throughput of the terminal remained unchanged, at 1.5m tons.
Eight-month volume of general cargo soared 48 percent to more than 60,000 tons."The increase in cargo volume was due to reduced backlog of Severstal ferrous metal cargo at the warehouse. The cargo accounted for 69 percent of total throughput, or more than 1 million tons," Neva-Metal CEO Mikhail Panov said.
CJSC Neva-Metal is part of a division Severstal Russian Steel. Neva-Metal operates berths located in the 3rd cargo area of Big Port St. Petersburg for handling ferrous metals exported from Cherepovetsk-based Severstal, of the secondary metals produced by Severstal-Vtormet, as well as containers. In 2010, the stevedoring company handled 2,374,000 tons of cargoes.
