Throughput of Poti-Kavkaz ferry service makes 100,000 tonnes throughout a year of operation – Levitin

Poti-Kavkaz ferry service between Armenia and Russia amounted to 100,000 tonnes of cargo throughout a year of operation, journalists were told by Igor Levitin, co-chairman of Armenia-Russia Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation, RF Minister of Transport, Interfax reports according to Gudok.

Levitin called regular service between Armenia and Russia to be a success of the Committee.

The memorandum on restoration of the ferry line Port Kavkaz-Poti between Armenia and Reserve Capital Enterpising Corporation (Switzerland), the owner of the ferry, was signed in Yerevan February 13, 2007. The test run of the service was launched in April 2007. It takes 31 hours for vessels to cover the distance between the two ports, which is 315 miles. The service is used by Russia to export mainly grain and food, Armenia – construction materials.
