Prosecutor’s Office accuses Nakhodka Harbormaster over safety negligence

Nakhodka Transport Prosecutor's Office has established that the Port of Nakhodka Harbormaster had neglected for several years the navigation safety requirements at the port’s harbor and berths, the regional prosecutor’s office said.

The team of investigators conducting an audit of the Federal Nakhodka Port Authority, found there had been no soundings conducted in the last 3 years at Trade Port’s berths, at Fish Port’s berths – for over 5 recent years. So far, the Port Authority has had no precise data on the berths depths. This may lead to accidents, the risk of running the ships aground in the waters of the sea port, the law enforcement agency said.

Russian Port of Nakhodka is located in the northern Bay of Nakhodka. The year-round navigable Port is connected via Trans-Siberian Railroad with the railway network of Russia and Western Europe. In 2010, Port of Nakhodka handled 15.32 million tons, down 2.6% from a year earlier.
