Trans-Siberian eight-month box traffic totals 747,302 TEUs
The total volume of containerized cargo hauled on the Trans-Siberian Railroad in January-August 2011 soared by 72 percent from a year earlier, to 747,302 TEUs, Russian and Ukrainian railways officials said Wednesday.
The figures were announced at the 20th plenary session of the International Association "Coordinating Council on Transsiberian Transportation" (CCTT), being held in Odessa.
Boxes volume moved on the route Russia – Estonia via TSR rose 56%, Russia - Mongolia – by 37%. Containerized cargo carried for the period by the railroad on Russia- Poland route totaled 148 772 TEUs (-6%), Russia - Belarus – 128 937 TEUs (-5%), Russia – Kazakhstan – 107,643 TEUs (-4%), Russia - Latvia – 58 583 TEUs (+5%).
Among participants of the session are more than 200 members of CCTT and guests from 24 countries.
