In January-September 2008, stevedoring companies of Sea Port of Saint Petersburg OJSC handled 8.5 million tonnes of cargo (-8%, year-on-year), the company’s press center reports.
In the reported period, transshipment of general cargo amounted to 5.1 million tonnes including 3.5 million tonnes of metal. Transshipment of dry loose and bulk cargo totaled 3.3 million tonnes including 1.6 million tonnes of coal.
First Stevedoring Company handled 4.1 million tonnes of cargo (5%, year-on-year), Second Stevedoring Company – 1.2 million tonnes (-21%), Forth Stevedoring Company - 3 million tonnes (-8%). Automobile terminal of Third Stevedoring Company handled some 30,000 automobiles since it started operation (less than 5 months ago).
The company attributes the decrease to a business loss of consignors under decline in demand for goods as well as to lack of prompt supply of wagons for coal loading, the statement reads.
