Fujian port box volume grows 8.3 percent to 6.1 million TEU
Sea ports in Fujian province recorded an aggregate container throughput of 6.1 million TEU during the period from January to August, an increase of 8.3 per cent year on year, according to government statistics quoted by Xinhua.
The Port of Xiamen handled 4.02 million TEU, up 6.4 per cent. Fuzhou handled 1.06 TEU, up 9.6 per cent. Meizhou Bay port recorded the biggest percentile increase of 14.6 per cent to 1.04 million TEU.
In the same period, Fujian provincial port throughput totalled to 242 million tonnes, up 15.7 per cent, achieving 73 per cent of its annual target.
Xiamen's tonnage climbed 15.6 per cent to 103 million tonnes. Fuzhou's grew 22.2 per cent to 64.5 million tonnes. Meizhou Bay's increased 10.6 per cent to 74.7 million tonnes.
By September, the province's best-known port, Xiamen, has been operating 188 container shipping services, 107 of them on foreign trade lanes, taking up 70 per cent of the provincial total.
