NCC to launch Ust-Luga box terminal this November
National Container Company (NCC) has scheduled the commissioning of new Ust-Luga Container Terminal (ULCT) for November 2011, NCC Vice President said Wednesday.
NCC Vice President Yegor Govorukhin presented ULCT in the framework of the official visit of the Russian Transport Ministry’s delegation to the Netherlands led by Deputy Transport Minister Viktor Olersky. The delegation, including Rosmorport’s head Andrei Lavrishchev and Deputy Head of the Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport (Rosmorrechflot) Sergey Gorelik, participated in the Russian-Dutch Logistics Forum held on Sept. 28 in Rotterdam.
Unifeeder Netherland’s Managing Director Michael Bonde, who attended the event, has confirmed the interest of its customers in ULCT. Unifeeder had announced earlier the operator would be willing to add to its container service regular calls to the Ust-Luga terminal.
"Port of Rotterdam is a key transport hub for Russian container cargo, so, it is a very important opportunity for us to present a new terminal for the transport industry of the Netherlands," said earlier NCC President Alena Ashurkova.
Ust-Luga-based Container Terminal owned by NCC Group, has unique advantages compared with other terminals of the North-West region. ULKT is Russia's first deep-water container terminal, which could handle 6000teu containerships thanks to the 16-meter-deep approach channel. ULKT located outside the urban area, so its operation and expansion are not limited by infrastructure and environmental factors. Due to more favorable climatic conditions the ice navigational period in the port of Ust-Luga to two months shorter than that of the port of St. Petersburg.
The first phase projected throughput of ULKT is 440,000 TEUs. Upon completion of the terminal project the facility will be able to handle 2.85 million TEUs a year.
National Container Company (NCC) founded in 2002 is now the leading container terminal operator in Russia and CIS countries. NCC is owned 50/50 by First Quantum Group and FESCO Transport Group. In 2010, total container trade across the NCC’s stevedoring assets amounted to over 1.3m TEUs.
NCC’s portfolio of assets includes First Container Terminal (FCT, St. Petersburg), NUTEP Container Terminal (Novorossiysk), Ukrtranscontainer (Ilyichevsk, Odessa region, Ukraine), Ust-Luga Container Terminal (Leningrad region), Logistika Terminal (Shushary St. Petersburg) and Wilhelmshaven-based JadeWeserPort (Germany)
