PetroChina buys 8,000 metric tonne low sulfer fuel oil from Russia
China Marine Bunker (PetroChina) Co Ltd in July bought an 8,000 metric tonne cargo of low sulfur fuel oil from Russia, an unnamed source quoted by Chinese English language newspaper China Daily said on Tuesday.
According to the report, the firm paid a premium of approximately $110 per metric tonne over Singapore prices.
The shipment was said to have arrived at North China's Tianjin port in mid July.
The need for low sulfer fuel increased today with the introduction of the North American Emissions Control Area (ECA) which will require all ships operating within 200 nautical miles of the U.S. and Canada coastline to use a marine fuel with a sulfer content not exceeding 1.00% by weight.
