Keppel inks $4.1bn contract to build five semi-subs
Keppel Offshore & Marine inked contracts with Sete Brasil Participacoes S.A. to design and construct five semi-submersible drilling rigs for approximately $4.1bn, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The contracts followed a letter of intend announced in April 2012. The five semi-submersibles are in addition to one unit that was already ordered by Sete Brasil in December 2011.
The new semi-submersibles are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2016, third quarter of 2017, second quarter of 2018 and fourth quarter of 2018, and third quarter of 2019, respectively.
When completed, the rigs will be chartered to Petrobras for 15 years for drilling activities in the pre-salt areas of Southeast Coast of Brazil, offshore Brazil.
“Looking ahead, our priority continues to be on the training and education of our current and additional workforce for these projects in Brazil as part of our productivity enhancement strategy,” said Tong Chong Heong, ceo of Keppel O&M.
