Klaipeda port’s harbour master steps down due to fuel theft scandal
Klaipeda state seaport harbor master Viktoras Lukosevicius has decided to resign as it turned out that fuel from seaport ships has been plundered for a long time, the Baltic Cource reports.
Another two administration members have been dismissed on accusations of fuel theft, Lithuanian media reports today.
"I am leaving from October 5. I had originally planned to work till July 2013 and then retire," said Lukosevicius who has been in the post of the harbor master for 12 years now.
The harbour master said he personally did not feel guilty for the theft. He claims that it is too hard to keep an eye on every employee, informs LETA/ELTA.
"Yes, I did press him," said Eugenijus Gentvilas, director general of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority. He said he was grateful to Lukosevicius for his long-term work at the seaport and his contribution to the field of shipping. However, the director general had some reproaches to him about his administrative work.
Lukosevicius, being a very experienced shipping expert, will be offered to remain at the Klaipeda seaport as a shipping consultant.
