Singapore container traffic rises in July
Container throughput at the port of Singapore rose in July amid the continuing weak global shipping due to low freight rates and overtonnage, Seatrade Asia online reports.
Singapore handled 2.77m teu of container last month, showing a 4.9% improvement compared to 2.64m teu posted in July 2011 and a 2.2% month-on-month growth, according to figures from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
In the first seven months of this year, Singapore moved a total of 18.41m teu, a 6.9% rise compared to 17.22m teu posted in the same period of 2011.
