Physical bunker supplier CEPSA Panama S.A. (CEPSA Panama) today announced that it is ready to supply 1.00% maximum sulfur fuels at Balboa Port, Panama, Ship & Bunker reports.
In the emailed statement, CEPSA Panama said it was supplying the fuel to meet the needs of its customers who are required to comply with new North American Emission Control Area (ECA) regulations.
Effective August 1, 2012 all ships operating within the ECA, effectively 200 nautical miles of the U.S. and Canada coastline, must use a marine fuel with a sulfur content not exceeding 1.00% by weight.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) is enforcing the ECA regulations in U.S. waters, with Transport Canada saying its enforcement will be "delayed by a few months."
