Bulava launch from SSBN Alexander Nevsky slated for November

The only test launch of the ballistic missile Bulava scheduled for this year will be held in November from the SSN Alexander Nevsky, a spokesman for United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) told PortNews.

"According to the plan of state trials of SSBN Alexander Nevsky, the launch of “Bulava” is scheduled for November," the spokesperson said.

If the tests turn out to be successful, the the SSN Alexander Nevsky acceptance certificate and commissioning the warship into service with the Russian Navy make take place by the end of the year, the USC source said.

Russian submarine K-550 Alexander Nevskiy is a nuclear ballistic missile submarine of the fourth generation Borei class (Project 955A). The warship keel was laid down on March 19, 2004 at Severodvinsk-based Sevmash shipyard.

The RSM-56 Bulava, (SS-NX-30) is a submarine-launched ballistic missile under development for the Russian Navy and to be deployed on the new Borei class of ballistic missile nuclear submarines.
