New service for Toyota production in Vladivostok
A new container carrier route between Japan's Aichi Prefecture and Russia's Vladivostok will open next year to service Toyota Motor Corp's vehicle production in the Russian Far Eastern city, prefectural officials said, reported Kyodo News.
A South Korean shipping company will operate a container carrier to transport vehicle components produced at Toyota's Tahara plant in Aichi from the prefecture's Mikawa port to Vladivostok, they said.
A joint venture between Japanese trading house Mitsui & Co and Russian automaker Sollers plans to undertake the production of Toyota's Land Cruiser Prado sports utility vehicle starting in the coming winter. Components for 1,000 vehicles will be shipped to the Russian city monthly.
Toyota will become the second Japanese automaker to produce vehicles in the Russian Far East, following Mazda Motor Corp, which will launch auto production in Vladivostok in September.
