NCC could give up its plans to build Latvia's largest container terminal in Riga
Russia's National Container Company (NCC) could give up its plans to construct Latvia's largest container terminal in Riga's Kundzinsala, as the newspaper Biznes&Baltija reports today.
According to information on the transport and logistics Internet portal infranews.ru, the investor has decided to revise its plans of container business development in Riga.
The Russian mass media also remind of litigation in connection with the development plan for Riga in 2006-2018, which makes the development of new projects in the port's territory complicated. The Constitutional Court ruling in the case has virtually suspended the NCC's National Container Terminal project, which foresees construction of a terminal with the annual capacity of two million TEU containers.
The situation has been further aggravated by the economic problems in Latvia.
As the newspaper Biznes&Baltija reports, the ports of Klaipeda in Lithuania and St.Petersburg in Russia could subsequently gain more containers to load if they improve their range of services.
