Iraq to build its biggest port with private investment
The Iraqi government approved building the country's biggest port in Basra, based on private investment mechanism.
The project is considered one on Iraq's main strategic projects that could activate the country's economy and affect the region's economy, spokesman of the Iraqi government Dr. Ali Al-Dabbagh said in a press release issued Thursday.
Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki had referred the project of Al-Faw Port to a committee that was made responsible of putting proposals to fasten the execution of the project.
An Italian company will prepare designs and supervise the project's execution in coordination with the Iraqi Transport Ministry.
The ministry will determine the project's needs, including roads, electricity, water, railway, and services, in coordination with other specialized ministries.
