Russian Black Sea ports can count on small portion of IRISL cargo – expert
Russian Black Sea ports can count only on a small portion of cargo carried by Islamic republic of Iran shipping lines (IRISL), Chegiz Izmailov, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Council of ministers of transport of CIS, says.
«IRISL is the largest Iranian shipping company and it plans transportation of large volumes of cargo. Meanwhile, Russian Black Sea ports are in a great demand of container transshipment facilities. NovorossiyskCommercial Sea Port is capable of handling maximum 35,000 TEU while the port of Burgas (Bolgaria) and Constanta (Romania) may handle 150,000 TEU per year each; Ukrainian ports of Iljichevsk and Odessa – 100,000 TEU and 300,000 TEU respectively, Deliver cites Izmailov.
IRISL earlier announced its plans to arrange container transportation from the states of the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea region.
The maritime fleet of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL Group) comprises 115 ocean-going vessels with the total capacity of 3.3 million DWT. The ownership structure of the fleet comprises 87 ocean-going vessels in IRISL and 28 different types of ships under the flag of subsidiaries, including Khazar Shipping, Valfajr as well as Iran-India Shipping Companies. They are manned by 6,000 Iranian personnel including shore staff, masters, deck and engine officers as well as ratings, who work under the flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf, international waters and various ports of the world..
