Putin to chair meeting on roads, transport during working trip to St Petersburg
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will make a working rip to St. Petersburg to chair a meeting on the development of the road and transport system during the crisis, Itar-Tass reports.
The meeting will dominate the agenda of the trip, which also include a discussion on “the Transport Ministry’s additional proposals on how to ensure sustainable development of the transport system during the economic crisis”.
In the first quarter if this year, the number of passengers and cargoes transported decreased as compared to the same period of last year. “The economic crisis has been most evident in the air transport (passenger carriage dropped by about 20 percent) and railway sectors (down by 26 percent),” a government official told Itar-Tass.
However a stabilising tendency was registered in March, and in some instances the decrease in passenger and cargo transportation slowed down.
