Singapore container throughput down 14.8% to 2.2 mln TEU in March 09
Singapore's port container volumes rebounded slightly in March compared to the previous month, even though volumes were down from a year ago, Portworld reports.
PSA International's flagship Singapore terminals moved 2.14 million TEUs in March, up from 1.8 million TEUs recorded in February.
For the first three months this year, PSA handled 5.86 million TEUs, down 17.8% compared to 7.12 million TEUs in the corresponding period last year.
Smaller operator Jurong Port posted a 14.3% increase to 56,000 TEUs in March from 49,000 TEUs in February.
Year-on-year, container throughput fell 23.3% from 73,000 TEUs in March 2008.
Overall, the port of Singapore recorded 2.19 million TEUs last month, up 18.4% from 1.85 million TEUs in February.
The figures were, however, down 14.8% compared to 2.57 million TEUs seen in March 2008.
