26 Latvian enterprises participate in "TransRussia" exhibition
From April 21 through April 24, the transport and logistics trade fair "TransRussia 2009" takes place in Moscow; Latvia is represented at the trade fair by 26 enterprises – the largest logistics companies from the ports of Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja, as BC learned from the state-owned railroad company Latvijas dzelzcel" (LDz).
The Latvian delegation is headed by Transport Minister Kaspars Gerhards (For Fatherland and Freedom/LNNK).LDz representatives at the exhibition are the company's chairman of the board Ugis Magonis and board membersEriks Smuksts and Andris Steinbriks. LDz subsidiary LDz Cargo also participates in the fair and is represented by the company's board chairman Guntis Macs.
Opening the trade exhibition, Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin pointed out that "TransRussia" was the largest transport and logistics trade fair in Russia. "I am glad to see ever new companies to participate in the fair, furthermore, most participants are enterprises from abroad. I have already met my friends – the transport ministers of Latvia and of Slovenia," Levitin said.
Gerhards in turn commented at the opening ceremony that transport sector could help overcome difficulties caused by the economic crisis, in the shortest period of time. "I am confident that also at this exhibition, which has become the principal hub for international cooperation in the sectors of transport and logistics, we will come to new solutions how to deal with the global economic crisis," the minister said.
The exhibition has been held in Russia annually since 1996; it attracts the leading transport and logistics companies from Russia, C.I.S. countries and the Baltic region.
While in Moscow, Gerhards is scheduled to have meetings, besides Levitin, with the head of the Russian Railways company Vladimir Yakunin and the Ambassador of Latvia to Russia Edgars Skuja.
Gerhards will be visiting Russia until April 23.
