Cargo turnover of Vostochny port up 0.2% in January-November 2006

Cargo turnover of Vostochny port grew by 0.2%, year-on-year, amounting to 18 872.3 thou tons, PortNews IAA learnt from the Eastern Branch of Rosmorport FSUE. Transshipment of general cargo amounted over the reported period to 2 666.6 thou tons (-13.7% against January-November 2005). The figure includes 2 443.1 thou tons of containerized cargo (-3.8%), 77.4 thou tons of metal (-20.6%), 86.9 thou tons of pipes (decreased 4.4-fold). Transshipment of machines and equipment grew 3.1 times to 2.2 thou tons. In the 11-month period transshipment of timber totaled 337.4 thou tons (+73.5%), dry bulk cargo – 15 786.7 thou tons (+2.5%), including 15 007.6 thou tons of coal and coke (+8%), 749.0 thou tons of potassium salt (-20.9%). Transshipment of ore fell 18.7 times to 30.1 thou tons, loose bulk cargo - 6.6 times to 21.3 thou tons. Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo totaled 60.3 thou tons (in January-November 2005 transshipment of liquid bulk cargo was not carried out).

Vostochny port is the deepest Far-Eastern port of Russia. It is located in the southern part of the Primorsky Krai on the shore of the Sea of Japan within 20 kilometers from Nakhodka – end point of Trans-Siberian Line. The port has year round navigation. The port is possible of handling vessels with a draft up to 15.5 meters, length up to 280 meters and breadth up to 40 meters. The port comprises 15 cargo berths, a number of auxiliary berths and a maintenance pier. Total length of the berthing line is about 4 kilometers. These berths are part of terminals used for transshipment of coal, containers, fertilizers, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo.
