3PDelivery and GTS merge to form giant last-mile delivery provider

A merger between two last-mile transportation companies – 3Pdelivery and General Transportation Services (GTS) – has created one of the supply chain industry’s largest last-mile logistics and delivery providers. The merger took place on December 1, 2006.The new company, which will continue to operate under the 3PDelivery and GTS names, operates in 45 states with a fleet of 1,100 trucks and 1,200 drivers. It also combines nearly $200 million in annual revenues, and forms one of the only nationwide players in an $8 billion market characterised by fragmentation.3PDelivery chairman & CEO Karl Meyer said: “By nearly doubling our individual companies’ size and scope, we now have the scale, geographic reach and depth of logistics knowledge to service large national accounts and compete with any player out there.”Prior to the merger, 3PDelivery (established in 2001) made approximately two million deliveries per year and reported revenues of more than $110 million in 2006.Prior to the merger, GTS (established in 1983) made more than 1.5 million deliveries a year, and reported revenues of $72 million in 2006.GTS co-founder Fred Maggio will serve as vice chairman of the newly merged company.
