In January-November 2013, Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 32,193,600 t of cargo (-2.8%, year-on-year), IAA PortNews learnt from the port authorities. In the reported period, coal transshipment dropped by 6.7% to 12,699,200 t, oil products – by 9.8% to 6,377,900 t, wood chips – by 12.2% to 836,300 t, grain – by 49.7% to 330,900 t, chemical cargo – increased by вырос 0.8% to 1,319,200 t.
The Port’s container throughput increased by 5% to 351,680 TEUs. Transshipment of ro-ro cargo was up by 1.7% to 555,100 t.
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2012, Freeport of Riga increased its throughput by 5.8%, year-on-year, to 36,051,900 tonnes of cargo.
