Admiralty Shipyards are booked for 8-10 years – Aleksandr Buzakov

Admiralty Shipyards are booked for 8-10 years, PortNews IAA learnt from Aleksandr Buzakov, Director of Western Center of Shipbuilding OJSC (sub-holding of the United Shipbuilding Corporation). According to him, it is to early to speak about transfer of the shipyard facilities to Kotlin island (Kronshtadt) where a new super shipyard is to be built.

“Nobody is going to close Admiralty Shipyards as the company’s backlog of orders is formed for the nearest 8-10 and we know what is to enter it next. It is also too early to say when the shipyard in Kronshtadt is to be built. To a great extent it will depend on how dynamic will the city develop in that direction. For example there were lots of discussions about the construction of business centers and residential area in the territory of Baltiysky Zavod though those projects ceased to be discussed as soon as Baltiysky Zavod received a well financed order for construction of a floating nuclear power station and icebreakers. So everything will depend on two factors – the yard’s loading and city plans as regards development of its territories,” Aleksandr Buzakov says.

As PortNews IAA learnt from Admiralty Shipyards, the company is to build 2 tankers, 2 supply vessels, 8 gas carriers, some 15 tugboats, 1 scientific research vessel and several hundreds of smaller vessels by 2016.

Admiralty Shipyards FSUE is the oldest Russia’s shipyard founded by Peter I on November 5, 1704. Modern Shipyards specialize in design, production and modernization of civil and naval vessels of various types. The Shipyard is a part of Western Center of Shipbuilding OJSC.
