Captain Subhash Kumar’s first act as the new chairman of the Chennai Port Trust has been to take on a flash strike by 500-600 workers that has brought iron ore handing at the port to a standstill. Speaking exclusively to Seatrade Asia Online, a CPT spokesperson confirmed that Kumar, who previously held the title of deputy chairman at the port, took over the new role from previous chairman K Suresh only this morning.
Local media have attributed the flash strike to a break down in talks yesterday between CRT authorities and worker unions regarding promotions for the workers.
