The construction of a new seaport at Kola peninsular (Murmansk region) for the development of Shtokman field, in particular, will commence in 2010, RF Transport Minister Igor Levitin told the Government presidium on June 6. According to the Minister, cargo transshipment via the port of Murmansk has already exceeded the result of the previous year by 10%.
“The port has actually exhausted its potential. In view of works developing at Shtokman field and operation of companies to cater for those works we intend to commence the construction of a new seaport in 2010,” GZT.Ru cites Levitin.
RF Prime Minister Vladimir Putin reminded in his turn that on of the Government decrees provides for reserving of land for that purpose.
Levitin confirmed the land has already been reserved for the construction of federal, regional and private infrastructure.
