In the first half of 2009, the port of Kaliningrad handled 6.011 million tonnes of cargo (-26.4%, year-on-year), PortNews IAA learned from the port administration. According to the source, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 18.7% to 3,442,700 tonnes including 2,678,200 tonnes of oil products (-26.8%) and 28,200 tonnes of chemicals (-44.9%, year-on-year). However, transshipment of crude oil increased by 37.7%, year-on-year, to 695,900 tonnes.
In the reported period the port handled 1.240 million tonnes of dry bulk (-38.7%) including 137,800 tonnes of coal (-82.3%), 143,600 tonnes of minerals (-47.1%), 27,300 tonnes of grain (-40.8%, year-on-year), 48,100 tonnes of scrap metal (-27.8%, year-on-year). However transshipment of other dry bulk increased by 17.9% to 883,200 tonnes.
In January-June transshipment of general cargo fell by 52.5% to 844,500 tonnes including 12,000 tonnes of timber (-69.8%) and 457,300 tonnes of iron and steel (-51.4%).
The port’s container throughput fell by 67.9% to 38,596 TEU.
Transshipment of ro-ro cargo increased over 2-fold to 8,500 units.
The number of calls fell by 34.7% to 1,073 units.
