The decline of the demand for transport service s should be attributed to the production slump in major cargo generating industries as well as to aggravation of foreign trade situation when it comes to major items of national export and reduction of personal income.
Meanwhile there is a positive trend towards growing throughput of seaports. In the first half of 2009, it increased by 5.9% primarily driven by growing export of oil cargo. In the reported period, transshipment of liquid bulk cargo in seaports raised by 13% to 144.2 million tonnes while transshipment of dry cargo fell by 3.4% to 91.2 million tonnes. Transshipment of containerized cargo fell by 28%, year-on-year.
