Throughput of Tuapse Commercial Seaport down 8.2% to 8.9 mln t in H1 09

In the first half of 2009, Tuapse Commercial Seaport OJSC handled 8.9 million tonnes of cargo (-8.2%, year-on-year), press center of the stevedoring company reports. 

In the 6-month period, the company handled 7.1 million tonnes of oil cargo, which is similar to the result of the previous year; transshipment of dry cargo fell by 31% to 1.8 mln t.
 
Import of raw sugar fell by 25%; export of coal – by 28%, metal – by 52%. In January-June the company handled 265,000 tonnes of grain (no grain was handled in January-June 2008). 

In the reported period, the company handled 352 vessels (including 195 vessels handled in liquid bulk district and 157 – in dry cargo district) and 29,000 rail wagons.

The company attributes the decrease to the business loss of consignors in the context of the financial crisis.

Tuapse Commercial Seaport (TMTP OJSC) is the main operator in the port of Tuapse, one of Russia’s largest ports. Major shareholder of TMTP OJSC (69.41%) is Universal Cargo Logistics Holding B.V. (UCLH). In 2008, the company handled 19.4 million tonnes of cargo (99% of 2007 result).
