Port of Seattle container throughput down 11 percent in June

The Port of Seattle had its best month of the year for international containerized cargo in June, although volume measured in loaded TEUs declined 10.9 percent compared to the same month last year.
That was still the smallest drop Seattle has seen in 2009, and June’s total of 81,265 TEUs was the most the port has seen on the international side since October 2008.
The June traffic in TEUs was also up for the second straight month on a month-to-month basis, advancing 3.2 percent from May and expanding both in inbound and outbound volume.
Loaded containerized imports were off 15.2 percent compared to June 2008, but the volume grew slightly from May. Exports, which fell more than 31 percent in the first quarter, were off only 4.6 percent compared to the same month a year ago.
